Atlanta's Thrift Stores

Although vintage clothing stores are usually a bit pricier than thrift shops when it comes to second hand clothing, they usually more than make up for it in terms of quality and selectiveness, as you won’t have to sift through nearly as many clothes before you find something you like, and you are much more likely to find something unique. If shopping for retro clothes is your thing, then Atlanta could well be the place for you. In particular, the Little Five Points district has quite a high concentration of high quality, unique vintage clothing stores, but there are a few good ones outside of this area too. Here are some of the best:

Rag-o-Rama: Halfway between a thrift shop and a vintage store, Rag-o-Rama, in Little Five Points, is a perfect place to find unusual clothing and fancy dress. Although they do not have a strict cut-off date for vintage items, and as a result stock many less desirable items from recent years alongside the vintage stuff, there are always a few gems to be found if you’re prepared to spend the time sifting through. If you’re after a unique vintage dress for next to nothing, or want to get a fancy dress outfit on the cheap, Rag o Rama should be your first port of call. In addition to their second hand clothing lines, they also stock some wild accessories for fancy dress parties, such us crazy sunglasses and wigs, so if you have a frat party planned in Atlanta, make sure to drop in here first!

Stefan’s: Situated in the heart of the Little Five Points district, Stefan’s is the longest established retro clothing specialist in Atlanta. It’s not the largest shop in the world, but it more than makes up for a relative lack of size with the sheer quality and diversity of the clothes and accessories that they have in stock. They have all sorts of groovy vintage clothes, hats, shoes, bags, and sunglasses for men and women, and have the unique distinction of having a range of funky old-fashioned aprons in stock at any given time. Although Stefan’s is one of the more expensive vintage emporiums around, the standard of clothing that they stock is of a very high quality indeed.

Lucky Exchange: If you’re prepared to venture out a little further, why not check out one of the two Lucky Exchanges in Atlanta, situated in Midtown and East Atlanta. These are quite like thrift stores in that you may have to sift through a lot of less desirable 90s gear to get to the good stuff, although, the ease of parking, relaxed setting, and lower than average prices make it well worth a visit. You can even get away with a doing a bit of haggling if you can pluck up the courage!
